Tutorial - 1st FC Cologne cake
Football fans listen up! If your planning on surprising a football fan
with a cake, this might be the perfect present.
Of course you can adapt the jersey to any football club you like. Look
for a suitable template or picture, at home or on the Internet.
A heart for "Dê mais coração" in Lisbon
![]() |
| The model |
This post
is exceptionally not about cakes, but about an organization called "Dê
mais coração" from Portugal. We spent last weekend in Lisbon and came
across this one by chance. The organization was looking for donations, but in a
very nice way we thought. Between February 14 and March 14, they had big
letters made from wire reading LOVE <3 placed on the "Praca do
Rossio" square. For a donation of 3 € one could buy a love lock (which you
might know from other cities, especially bridges).

Jaegermeister cake
Hey
everyone! My girlfriend had asked me to spend some time on this blog too so I
thought I'll give it a go ;-)
A birthday
was coming up - my best friend's one. Thinking back to old times and remembering
having one or two shots of Jaegermeister now and then, I came across the idea
of making a cake in the shape of a Jaegermeister bottle for him.
The idea
was the following: sponge cake, cowberries and a white wine cream with a light
taste of Jaegermeister, rounded off with white chocolate ganache.
So I got to
work...
DIY - Selfmade cupcake wrappers
You can buy
cupcake wrappers in a store, yes. But sometimes you dont find the right model
or color, then its time for this tutorial.
What you
need:
- Cupcake wrapper TEMPLATE
- Cardboard
- Design cutter (HERE or in a crafts store)
- Double-sided adhesive tape
When buying
the cardboard, make sure to choose one that is not too thick, otherwise the
cutter wont be able to do its job.
Start by
cutting out cardboard wrappers using your template. There might also be types
of cardboard that have two different sides.
Tutorial - Nutella cake
The perfect
cake for a Nutella lover - definitely a Nutella jar cake!
This is a
carving cake, so you want to use a firm dough that doesnt crumble easily. If
you like chocolate, the Devils Food Cake is just perfect for this matter. Weve
used the recipe of Theresa from Crazy Sweets. Thanks again for the tip, it
worked just fine!
Whats Craftsy? - Online turorials
Have you
ever heard of the platform Craftsy? I came across this American tutorial
platform a couple of months ago by chance. You can find a wide variety of
online courses such as "sewing", "drawing",
"photography" and of course also "cake decorations".
Sugar flowers and stripes
I've found a
picture of this cute cake in the magazine "Cake art made easy". Yay, something nice that can be done quickly =)
Candy bar part 2 – lots of sweet treats

As Ive promised in my
last post, heres the part 2 that will show you what weve made, how weve made it
and what recipes weve used.
Candybar for a wedding – The planning process
We've made a candy bar
for the wedding of our friends Janina & Christoph. Because you have to
think about many things for this kind of project, it's best to start with a
timetable.
Mini ring cake - Sacher Cake

There have
been two things on my mind that I've always wanted to try out =) First, that was
my new silicone mini ring cake mold, and second a Sacher cake. And then I
thought, hey, why not kill two birds with one stone! I've found a suitable
recipe in the book "Mini ring cake: Simply spend on treats" by Andrea
Schirmaier-Huber and started right away.
Lillifee cake - part 2
So in part
1 I've showed you how to make the Lillifee figure, now its time for the actual
cake. You will need to cakes for this, one in a normal spring form and one in a
ring cake (Gugelhupf). They should both have a similar diameter. We've chosen a
chocolate sponge cake for this project.
Divide the
round cake into two pieces. If you think it's not high enough, you'll have to
bake another ;) Normally one well risen cake is enough.
Lillifee cake with a kids surprise - part 1

Little
Leona's 4th birthday was coming up, and it had to be a Lillifee cake. You've
probably seen a few barbie cakes already with the actual cake being the dress.
That's what we wanted to do. We've never done this kind of cake before so we
looked up pictures and videos of how people did it. We especially liked the
Video of Ann from How To Cook That.
TUTORIAL - Fondant windmill
Today I want to show you how to make a windmill out of
fondant. it might look difficult, but its actually quite easy - youll see. With
just a few steps you can create beautiful windmills and decorate your cake
pops, muffins or cakes.
Start by rolling out a patch of thin fondant and cut
out a square. if you have a square cutter, you can use that one. Ive simply
used a memo paper as a template which Ive folded twice to get 4 little squares,
since I wanted to make little windmills, and traced the lines.
Tutorial – Cake Lace and Ruffles
Finally I got around to try out my cake laces
which I had purchased at the Cake World Germany in Hamburg. Claire Bowman had a
fantastic selection, so I had a hard time choosing. Eventually, I bought a small
and a big mat. The good thing about laces is that once tightly wrapped, you can
store them for quite some time and they will still be flexible. For our cake, we
used laces that we had prepared some weeks before.
Tutorial - Mini Ruffle Cake
We had quite a bit of cake surplus, and
normally we use that to make cake pops, but this time we chose to make some
tartlets.
Our cake remains were'nt even and had a few
cracks here and there, but with tartlets this is easy to cover up.
DIY - Make your own cakeboard
Sometimes you need a cake board that you wont
find in any shop. So you make one yourself :)
What you need:
How to make the rectangular cake become a round one - „Donauwelle“
Well, we
wanted to bake that classic German Donauwelle and try to make a fancy cake out
of it. And it did work, it doesn't always have to be rectangular :)
There are
probably hundreds of recipes out there for this delicious cake, but we chose
the following:
Recipe
Cake base
350g Butter
7 eggs
300g sugar
1 pck vanilla sugar
500g flour
1 pck baking powder
4-5 tbsp
cocoa powder
1-2 glasses morello cherries
1-2 glasses morello cherries
Start by
beating the butter and sugar until creamy, then add the eggs one by one. Now
add the vanilla sugar and beat until combined. Finally, sieve in the flour and
baking powder and fold in.
For this
round version I spread 2/3 of the dough onto two greased 28cm spring forms and
mixed the remaining third with 4 tbsp of cocoa powder. Put that aside.
Cake World Germany 2014
A fun and exciting weekend comes to an end, which we spent,
as probably many of you too, at the Cake World Germany, Hamburg. This was
actually our first cake exhibition – and we loved it.

Wedding cakes
How it all started
Anyone who's made a name for her or himself in the
world of cake decorations had once started small. For us, that was about
3 years ago. Christina was about to turn 25 and I knew that she had
wished for a book about cake decorations. So I thought to myself,
hey, why not make a birthday cake, and why not a 5-tier one!?
